Checklists for Medical and Equipment Trekking in Nepal
Before traveling to Nepal, one has to organize things for medical and trek gear preparation beforehand. Medical supplies and trekking equipment may not match available resources in Nepal as one would have been used to, hence proper planning.
Medical Checklist
Consult with Your Doctor and Pharmacist: Make sure to include your medications because your usual brands may not be available in Nepal.
Essential Medications:
- Pain relief: Aspirin, Ibuprofen or Paracetamol
- Cold & flu relief: Decongestants, flu tablets
- Allergy medication: Antihistamines
- Antibiotics: Most important when trekking in more remote areas
- Muscle relief: Anti-inflammatory medicine
- Digestive health: Medication for diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and rehydration salts
- Skin care: Insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm, antifungal cream
- First-aid kit: Bandages, band-aids, antiseptic wipes and other wound dressings
- Medical tools: Scissors, tweezers, thermometer, sterile syringes (if needed)
- Water safety: Water purification tablets
- Vaccinations: though rare, there may not be major health hazards; Ask your doctor for recommended vaccinations prior to travel.

Cash (Nepali Rupees): For visa applications at Tribhuvan International Airport or land border checkpoints

Most trekking amenities can be rented or bought in Kathmandu. The quality may vary; thus, it is suggested to bring some essentials from home.
