Trekking permits in Nepal
A trekking permit is often required in case the appropriate trekking area is far off from the normal routes of trekking. These permits are issued by the Department of Immigration, located in Kalikasthan, Dillibazar.
Trekking Permit Requirements
- Standard trekking routes do not require permits.
- Restricted areas would require a special trekking permit.
- Trekking in a group only – Individual trekkers are not allowed in these restricted areas.
Restricted Trekking Areas & Fees

3 | Mustang District (Upper Mustang) | $500 per person for the first 10 days, then $50 per day. |
4 | Gorkha District (Manaslu Area & Tsum Valley: Chhekampar, Chumchet) | Sep–Nov: $70 per person per week, then $10 per day. Dec–Aug: $50 per person per week, then $7 per day. |
5 | Dolakha & Humla District (Gauri Shankar, Lamabagar, Simikot, Yari, Limi, Muchu, Tibet route via Tangekhola) | $50 per person for the first 7 days, then $7 per day. |
6 | Rasuwa District (Thuman, Timure) | $10 per person per week. |
7 | Sankhuwasabha & Solukhumbu Districts (Makalu Region: Kimathanka, Chepuwa, Hatiya, Pawakhola) | First 4 weeks: $10 per person per week. |
8 | Manag District (Nar, Phu, Northern Tilche, Thoche) | Sep–Nov: $90 per person per week. Dec–Aug: $75 per person per week. |
9 | Mugu District (Mugu, Dolpu, Pulu, Bhangri) | $90 per person for the first 7 days, then $15 per day. |
10 | Bajhang District (Kanda, Saipal, Dhuli) | $90 per person for the first 7 days, then $15 per day. |
11 | Darchula District (Byas Village Development Committee) | $90 per person for the first 7 days, then $15 per day. |
